Listen this Friday 25 January to the voice of tomorrow on the topic that really fires them up – Climate Change and our future. C-Cast, an all day radio station run by young people, for young people, will include live interviews, drama, documentary, music and spirited debate. Co-ordinated by the youth project C-Change, the programme will be live online at switchonswitchoff.org and on community radio stations across the country.
Sixth formers and college students from around London will explore climate change issues through workshops, activities and debates. Divided into different ‘nations', and speaking live from a conference in co-operation with the Greater London Authority (GLA) in the Assembly building, they will build their own vision of what a sustainable future in the UK could look like and explore how best to cooperate and realise this future. 19 year old Ruth Yates, who chairs the C-Change group of 14 to 23 year olds says, “It’s been such an exciting 18 months, I can’t wait to see it all come together with C-Cast and the conference. The aim of the project is to change young people’s attitudes and I really feel we’ve achieved it!” Ann MacGarry from The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT), who has been supporting the project from the beginning says, “These young people are absolutely amazing. They have grasped the issues far better than most older people and communicate it so much more imaginatively than I would ever dream of.” The C-Change project is made up of young people from around the country. Funded by Defra and PEET, it is run by the Woodcraft Folk in partnership with the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) and de Montfort University. With the support of community radio Preston FM, the programmes will be broadcast on 30 other radio stations around the country. The programme will also be available for download after Friday 25 January at switchonswitchoff.org
