Death is not welcome hereWords: Elspeth Rae

At first glance the name of this band sounds slightly terrifying. After all, any band name with the word death in the title, causes slight panic - what sort of music will they be playing? Some sort of funeral march? However, once the context of the name is explained, all becomes clear. “We took our name from the personification of Death talked about in Revelations and Romans,” explains Stevo, the lead vocalist in the band. “After all, Death is not welcome in a Christian context, for we don’t die, rather live on in the Kingdom of heaven.”

Having met through their various churches, these four guys have already made quite a name for themselves in both Christian and mainstream circles. They have just finished touring America, an experience that, from their pictures on Myspace, looked incredible.  Although Stevo himself describes the band’s sound as being on “the heavy side of alternative rock”, this does not need to put any die hard pop fans off. There is a real message in their songs that transcends the sound. The band’s name is not the only part of their agenda to tackle ideas of the Almighty. Every song focuses on the importance of having God in your life, but in a really modern way.  There is no sense of preaching here, rather the boys have used the everyday, even the mundane to raise Christian issues: “I put my sin in my bag - I put sin on my back and I wear it - He took my sin on His back and He died - I hear that truth is on the streets” (Lyrics from Our Time is Now)

“In fact”, says Stevo, “spreading the word of God and the Truth of Christianity is the only reason we do this. By performing and writing in this way, we can reach the kids, the very people we feel will benefit wholly from our work and from a Christian understanding of life.”  Their faith in God is the sole reason that these boys perform and watching their videos on YouTube, one really gets a sense of an alternative rock band with a difference. They actually have something valuable to say; a message to spread. These guys aren’t swearing and cursing their way to success and fame, but praising and literally screaming with joy.  A joy that is instantly felt by those watching.
