Interview: Tope Chiedozie - Jesus is my logo

Jesus is my logo

If you’ve been on Facebook recently, you would have noticed the hundreds of people who changed their profile pics on Monday 19th May 2008 in celebration of the Jesus is my logo day. The creative badges, created by new company Icepix, are a bold way for Christians to declare and share their faith.

Founded by Tope Chiedozie of popular UK grime duo Commission, Icepix is a photography studio specialising in events, photo styling and customisation. The company launched the bright and colourful Jesus is my logo badges at the end of February 2008 as a way to give Christians the chance to evangelise with others in an everyday setting.

Talking about the logo, founder Chiedozie says he created the badges to provide a way to reach people outside of the church walls. He explains, “I wanted to create something that was cool but also a tool of evangelism. People who wear the badge are constantly stopped in the street or on trains and questioned as to the meaning, providing a prime opportunity for people to share their faith.”

Chiedozie hopes the badges will not only prove as an ice-breaker in encouraging faith discussions but will bring badges back in fashion. “The badge as an accessory has been off the scene for a minute, but we’re bringing the badge back!” Chiedozie says. “I desire to see it become a successful worldwide fashion accessory with a movement following. We already have it in places like Chicago and California so it's only a matter of time before domination. I want to see it also become the number one 'cool'  tool for evangelism. I want Christianity to become cool again."

Badge wearers are leaving messages of support on social networking sites regarding the badges. David Emery who wears the badge stated on the group wall on the social networking site Facebook, “I'm just makin' God famous! Jesus is my identity and I'm not afraid/ashamed to show it. It's actually a good tool to break the ice.”

The badges, designed by Chiedozie himself, are priced at £1 each or can be purchased in bulk. They’re available to purchase from myspace.com/icepixworkshop.
