Faith Drama Productions presents The Fiddler Print E-mail
From the creators of the critically acclaimed ‘Life on the Stairs’, FAITH Drama Productions presents the World Premiere of The Fiddler, which will perform for a limited-run at The Unicorn Theatre from Wednesday, 13 until Saturday, 16 August.

WHO: Faith Drama
WHAT: LONDON PREMIERE: The Fiddler
WHERE: Unicorn Theatre, London
WHEN: Wed 13 – Sat 16 August; PRESS NIGHT Wed 13 Aug
WHY: To give young performers and production crews a platform from which to demonstrate their talents
HOW: With skill, ambition and determination in abundance

Revolving around the concepts of change and growth, The Fiddler focuses on the degenerative effects societal ills - represented by metaphorical ‘dark being’ - have on the growth and development of children into adulthood as their innocence is stripped away.

Lee and his friends live in London. They’ve grown-up hearing tales of a dark-being lurking in the shadows, playing a tune – a mesmerising tune - and goes by the name of ‘The Fiddler’. As the city around them alters, the children grow apart, their attitudes and outlook evolving and adapting. Without their knowledge, the familiar stranger still hides in the dark, influencing their lives - perhaps it wasn’t just a story?

This urban theatre piece is written and directed by FAITH Drama’s Artistic Director, Gbemisola Ikumelo, and features a combination of physical and musical theatre composed by young newcomer Jon Hickman and choreographed by Cindy Claes (Artistic Director for East London Dance Youth Company and Choreographer of Now I belong, Sadlers Wells Theatre)

Speaking for the production, Gbemisola comments “My heart often cries for the adults of tomorrow and what they and the world they inhabit will be like in years to come. This play looks at the consequences of one’s choices. How the seemingly innocuous act of a child can affect them and their future generations well into adulthood. It’s a piece that is all the more powerful because of the range of young voices that will bring this play to life”

The Fiddler is an ambitious, exciting and thought-provoking piece, performed by young artistes from throughout London catchments, and offers a showcase of youthful talents and energy as cast and crew progress towards artistic performance related careers.
