Words: Adenike DerrickSinger/songwriter Erin Schneider is set to release her debut album Faith Walk on Autumn Records. As it’s her debut release we find out what to expect from the album and what music and faith means to her.
SB: How important do you think it is to empower women?
ES: I believe that women in today’s world need tremendous support. Being in mum’s groups, Bible studies, mops, etc. are all ways you can get a network of support around you. In that sense you empower women with strength and endurance to run this race. We can’t do it alone, you need community.
SB: How do you balance being a mum and having a career within music?
ES: My kids are very much a part of my ministry. They are the first ones to hear my songs and they come with me to the events I have. I love that they meet all the people and get loved on by everyone. First and foremost, I am a mum!
SB: Describe your debut album release ‘Faith Walk’?
ES: It was an album written during one of the most trying times in my life; a true “faith walk” season. The songs have a lot to do with committing yourself to the Lord and watching him see you through. He is a faithful God and he won’t let you down.
SB: What did you enjoy most whilst working on your album?
ES: I enjoyed working with the talented musicians that help the songs come alive.
SB: What do you enjoy most about being an artist?
ES: Getting to encourage others that God has a plan for them and to seek that out for their life.
ES: I personally have a conviction to do Christian music. I listen to all types but as far as my ministry, I want to use the music God gives to draw others to Him.
SB: What’s your opinion on the Christian music scene at the moment?
ES: I think there are a lot of people seeking out a career in music that haven’t actually given it over to the Lord. Too often we strive to make things happen on our own instead of allowing the Lord to work.
SB: Do you think it’s important to write your own songs?
ES: I think it’s really fun to write my own stuff but don’t think it’s necessary.
Do you have any advice for women wanting to become artists within the music industry?
ES: Have a willing heart to do what God wants… He sees your heart and wants to know you are submitted to Him in all things.
SB: What plans do you have for the future next in terms of your career?
ES: I want to get out there as much as possible, allowing God to lead me where to go. Sharing a message of hope and encouragement.
