young-girl-reading.jpgHow to get your faith life in gear one

I love Jesus. I have always loved Him but I don’t know how it happened, one minute I was loving Him and the next I was finding it difficult to show Him that I loved Him. I know that love is a doing verb and that being a Christian is not restricted to just Sundays; everyday I should be living and practising what I believe but I started backsliding and turning away from God. Little by little, sin was creeping in my life.

It is not a good thing to allow yourself to fall so far that you become lost and this feeling of being lost started to etch away in my heart. I was feeling lost because I had started to forget the Bible stories that had made a huge impact in my life. I was no longer turning to memory verses to get me through difficult situations, I was slipping more and more from God and all I was giving to Him was lip service on Sundays. Every time I heard a message about obedience, I knew that God was trying to get me to change, to come to Him, to long for Him, to seek only Him alone and give Him my heart. But I was stubborn and didn’t know how to turn back to Him again.

Recently in church I heard a message that I couldn’t ignore. It was about the prodigal son returning back home and I knew I had to give my life back to God. You need to read about the prodigal son in Luke 15: 11-32.

It wasn’t easy responding to the altar call after having been saved for nearly four years but I swallowed my pride and walked to the front in obedience because I knew that I needed to return home. Just as any loving parent would take back a son or daughter who had repented and wanted to return back to the family, I knew God so wanted me back in His family and I made the choice to go back to Him.

To be a true follower of Christ, we need to love Him with all of our heart. God wants His children to seek Him alone; that is why the Bible says that He is a jealous God because He wants no man before Him.

It’s only been two weeks and I am now re-learning a lot of things. I have now become a baby needing milk instead of solid food but that’s ok. I am taking it one day at a time and getting back into the habit of spending time with God. So if you’re going through similar, don’t ever feel like it is too late for you, it is never too late. Come to Jesus today.

TIPS

If you’ve found yourself slipping away from God, the tips below can help you to get your faith life back into gear one.

• Make it a point to study the Bible; that is God’s word and it has been given to us to help guide us as we wander through this life
• Start the habit of spending time with God; that is crucial. Remember that habits are hard to break
• Talk to God constantly through prayer – get to know Him all over again
• Memorise favourite Bible verses – these will come in handy in difficult situations
• Listen to Christian music to help you reconnect with God
• Start going to church if you have stopped or join a Bible study or home fellowship group
• And lastly, surround yourself with Christian friends who can help you in your moment of weakness.

Something similar

I found myself in a similar situation, really far from God and I had to discipline myself so that I could once again become close to him. God is always on hand and he loves you so don't ever feel like you can't come back to him.

Try to be close with God is hard for me too. I pray every day that my relationship with God will continue to grow and grow day by day. There are my things out there which is trying to pull me away from reaching God such as work and friends.

I know that God is always there but it is just that I'm away. One thing for sure, he is there in my times of need.

I'm not a prodigal son. I just accidentally type my title in the wrong place.

I like the story of a prodigal son. His father was so kind and did a feast when he received his son. He didn't reject the presence of this son. He didn't care about his some past act or condition. His love towards his son remains the same all this while. When someone's happy, there is always someone out there who is unhappy. In this case, it is the brother.

How great will it be if this situation happens in the world today.

Sometimes going to church every Sunday doesn't really hep to connect us back to God. We must have God in our heart.

Most of us would say that we put God priority first before others. God wants to be in every thing we do. That's why he is the Alpha and Omega being from the start to the end.

This means he is quite manipulative over us.
